On October 26, 2024, EAAW held a crucial workshop in Dar es Salaam to promote cage free poultry farming in Tanzania. The event highlighted the negative impacts of caged farming on animal welfare and human health, encouraging farmers to switch to humane methods. We involved various stakeholders in the poultry production chain including government officials from the Ministry level, egg producers, poultry farmers associations, media representatives and other animal welfare organizations in Tanzania and Open Wing Alliance Africa Lead. The government and other delegates for this workshop pledged support for the cause.
Thanks to our donors and Education for African Animals Welfare (EAAW), this workshop marked a significant step forward for poultry welfare in Tanzania as it has opened the discussion and mapped the way towards cage free with key stakeholders including government. This is the beginning of the big changes in the area of layer hens welfare in Tanzania and Africa
